Nhạc sỹ Hoàng Việt viết Tình ca năm 1957. Đó cũng là lúc cả dân tộc Việt Nam lại một lần nữa bước vào cuộc chiến tranh vệ quốc bi tráng. Hoàn cảnh ra đời bài hát cũng rất lãng mạn.

Vào 1 đêm trăng sáng ở MB, nhạc sĩ Hoàng Việt trăn trở không ngủ được vì nhớ thương người vợ trẻ đang ở lại MN. Đắm chìm trong cảm xúc âm nhạc đang trào dâng trong lòng, nhạc sĩ liền viết 1 mạch lời và nhạc bài hát chỉ trong 1 đêm. Bài hát này lúc đầu bị phê phán là ủy mị không phù hợp với bầu không khí chiến tranh thời ấy, nhưng về sau được hoan nghênh, đón nhận vì tính chiến đấu của nó.

Tình ca là bài ca thực sự da diết và ngân vang về tình yêu, khát vọng sống và đức tin vào đời sống thế gian này. Nó không phải bài hát viết cho một người lính trong một khoảnh khắc nào đó của cuộc chiến. Nó viết cho mọi người ở mọi nơi và mọi lúc. Hãy lắng nghe bài ca đó từ nơi sâu thẳm nhất của tâm hồn, chúng ta sẽ thấy một bầu trời, một con đường mở ra rộng lớn trước chúng ta.
